**Approval Delegation** allows you to delegate approval responsibility to a proxy approver for a temporary period of time. Reasons why it might be necessary to select an alternate approver include:

* Holiday
* Leave of absence
* Secondment
* Meetings
* Illness
* Time constraint in times of heavy workload

PECOS P2P will divert all documents requiring approval from your To Do list to your proxy's for as long as the defined timeframe is valid. Approval can be delegated only to another PECOS P2P user but that user does not themselves have to be an approver.

To ensure that a delegated approver is not sent their own documents to approve, PECOS P2P will check the profile of the document’s buy-for user. Where it is the same as the delegatee, the document is sent to the original approver and the delegation is ignored.

Permission to delegate approval is granted by your system administrator via a user profile role. Not all approvers will therefore have the rights to delegate their approval authority: your organisation’s business procedures may not allow you to undertake approval delegation.

To accommodate occasions when approvers are out of the office at short notice or have forgotten to set a delegation for themselves, your system administrator also has permission to set and delete approver’s delegations.
